The question
My master’s project, “Tuning the Properties of 2D Materials Using the Orbital Angular Momentum of Light”, investigated how orbital angular momentum carried by Laguerre–Gaussian beams affects the optical properties of 2D materials.
Experiments
Using photoluminescence spectroscopy, I identified light- and temperature-dependent changes in emission behaviour, including red-shifting and evidence of strain and exciton-to-trion conversion, and quantified the influence of laser power, temperature and material thickness on the optical response of WS₂ and 2D hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites.
Modelling
I used COMSOL simulations to model orbital angular momentum transfer and determine how material thickness and permittivity influence the response — integrating experimental spectroscopy with computational modelling to connect observed optical changes with underlying material behaviour.
